One of the most anticipated Cigars of 2011, the Montecristo No. 2 Gran Reserva reaches the UK shores. If the Cohiba Grand Reserva is anything to go by, this Cigar will be a blockbuster.
Published: 29 January 2012The long awaited Montecristo No. 2 Gran Reserva Cosecha 2005 has finally arrived on UK shores. Ajay Patel, the proprietor of the La Casa Del Habano in Teddington, London has announced on his Blog that he has received the first shipment of this extremely limited edition cigar.
The price tag for the box of fifteen that the Gran Reserva comes in at a mere £840, that works out as £56 a Cigar. Along with the Cohiba Behike range and Edicion Limiteda 1966, this Cigar sits in the ultra expensive range bracket of Habanos.
| Name | Brand | Vitola |

| No. 2 Gran Reserva | Montecristo | Pyramid - 52 x 156 |
The Gran Reserva is extremely limited, world wide allocation consists of 5000 numbered cases containing fifteen cigars. Make no mistake, this is collectable and therefore regardless of the price tag, will be quickly snatched up by serious collectors. Therefore if you are going to splash out on a box, I would suggest that you get your order in now.
It will be interesting how these will taste versus the regular production Montecristo No. 2. The Gran Reserva programme is such that the tobacco used is aged for at least five years, as opposed to the normal Edicion Limiteda programme that requires the tobacco to be aged a minimum of three. Will this keep the same blend as the Montecristo No. 2, meaning that the flavours will be basically the same, but more refined? Or will it be a Cigar that is the same dimensions, but totally different animal? I would be happy to sample any going spare, if you happen to be fortunate enough to purchase a box!
Like many of the special releases that were slated for release in 2011, they have been slow coming. Regional Editions for the United Kingdom, Belgium & The Middle East have yet to be released.
