Cohiba Robustos, Cuban Cigar Information
Released in 1989, the Cohiba Robusto fulfills the demand for stouty, thick ring gauged Cigars that were beginning to pick up in popularity in the late 80's and early 90's. As with all Cohiba's, the Robustos is the most expensive Robusto on the market.
When it comes to Robusto sized Cigars, Cuba has plenty to offer, and it would have been a crime for Cohiba not to have this vitola as part of it's lineup. However, competition is fierce amongst brands, so when it comes to the Cohiba Robusto, for the price premium, you expect the Cigar to tick all the boxes.
I have found the Cohiba Robusto to go in and out of fashion over the last five to ten years. You would have expected such a Cigar, with the price premium, to be consistently exceptional, however the quality seems to dip slightly from time to time. Not due to construction however, but due to quality of flavours and blends.
With other Robustos such as the Bolívar Royal Corona, Ramon Allónes Specially Selected & Partagás Serie D No. 4 being consistently high quality and at a much more reasonable price range, it's very difficult for me to suggest the Cohiba Robusto to anyone other than someone who has Cohiba as their goto Cigar.
If you ask any seasoned Cigar smoker which Robusto sized Cigar they think is the best ever produced, most would probably say the Partagás Serie D No. 4. One of my personal favourite Cigars.
