Por Larrañaga Cuban Cigars - Models, Tasting Notes & Ratings
Por Larrañaga was registered in 1834.
Currently, Por Larrañaga consists of three vitolas, small sizes that will suit the smoker who has only a limited amount of time to smoke and possibly a restricted budget to spend on Cigars. All three Cigars are well priced, with the Petit Coronas being available in cabinet's of fifty, are great go to smokes.
Both the Montecarlos and Panatelas were machine made until 2002. Now, like the Petit Corona, the whole Por Larrañaga brand is man made.
Por Larrañaga is one of the most popular brands when it comes to being commissioned as a Regional Edition. Germany were the first country to have a Por Larrañaga as a Regional Edition in 2006, with the Por Larrañaga Lonsdale.

Along with the Por Larrañaga Panatelas, the Montecarlos is reletively difficult to source. Production seems to halt for a year or two and then re-starts.
This Por Larrañaga is interesting in it's only available in cabinet's of fifty, whereas every other Petit Corona is only available in boxes of twenty five. Up until 2007 the availability of the Por Larrañaga Petit Corona was difficult to come by. However, in recent years, production has seemed to have picked up and now are reasonably easy to come across.
I find the production of the more rustic than other Cigars of the same vitola. Additionally, the Por Larrañaga Petit Corona requires a few years ageing before the qualities of the tobacco start to come through to the fore.
After the Quintero Petit Quintero and Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan, the third cigar announced in 2014 to be released the same year, the Por Larrañaga Picadores is available on the market. Released first to Swiss La Casa del Habanos stores on the first Friday of September 2014. Other Swiss retailers will have the Picadores on sale on Tuesday, 16th September.
Por Larrañaga Lonsdales - German Regional Edition
The Lonsdale was the first Por Larrañaga Regional Edition, released in 2006 for the German market. This Lonsdale is seen as a remake of the original Por Larrañaga Lonsdale, a pre-revolution Cuban Cigar that was discontinued in 2001.
Por Larrañaga Magnificos - United Kingdom Regional Edition
Possibly the highest regarded and most sought after Regional Edition of all, the Por Larrañaga Magnificos is a remake of the popular Por Larrañaga Magnum, which in the 1960's and 1970's one of the most sought after Cigars amongst aficionado's.

Por Larrañaga Secretos - Spanish Regional Edition
It seems that the Spanish distributor for Cuban Cigars, Altadis have utilised a different strategy for their own 2013 Regional Edition, compared to other distributors. Whilst other distributors have gone for prestige, Altadis have gone ahead and produced a high volume, low price regional edition in the form of the Por Larrañaga Secretos.
Whilst other distributors have gone for the minimum run of 2000 boxes, the Secretos have a release of 8000 boxes of 25. Secretos are currently retailing in Spain at around €3.50 per single cigar.
From what I've read on the major cigar forums, this strategy has been a huge success with aficionados, where many of them have gone ahead and secured multiple boxes without even sampling the cigar beforehand. Even with Altadis huge run of 8000 boxes, I can't see the Secretos hanging around in the walk-in humidors of Spanish tobacconists much more than a year.
Por Larrañaga Sobresalientes - United Kingdom Regional Edition
Announced during the week of the 2014 Habanos Festival, the Por Larrañaga Sobresalientes will be the largest ring gauged Regional Edition made specific for the British market. An interesting vitola in the fact that it has an odd numbered fifty three ring gauge that is difficult to pronounce. It's not the first Sobresalientes Regional Edition however, as in previous years we have had the Ramon Allónes Sidon and Bolívar 681 for both Lebanon and Bulgaria respectively.
