Ramon Allónes Hunters & Frankau Aniversario 225, 2012 United Kingdom Regional Edition, Cuban Cigar Information
The Ramon Allónes Hunters & Frankau Aniversario 225 commemorates two hundred and twenty five years since the founding of Hunters & Frankau, the exclusive distributor of Cuban Cigars in the United Kingdom. The Cigars were rolled in 2012 and shipped over to Hunters & Frankau in June 2013, where they will be aged for two years in the company's own warehouse.
Launched at the 2015 Hunters & Frankau Summer Party, at the Belgrave Square on June 19th in London, the Hunters & Frankau Aniversario 225 is the most anticipated United Kingdom Regional Edition since 2007's Por Larrañaga Magnificos.
2015 Habanos Festival
During the 2015 Habanos Festival, that was held in February of that year, a few lucky people were able to smoke a sample of the Hunters & Frankau Aniversario 225. Pictures have been posted via social media sites as Instagram and Twitter, with the general consensus that the cigar is going to live up to hype.
Long term aficionado and cigar forum contributor Ryan posted an image of the Ramon Allónes Hunters & Frankau Aniversario 225 that he received whilst at the Habanos Festival in Cuba:
Ryan's verdict on the cigar: they're very nice. His tasting notes:
A very nice wrapper, colorado, smooth with no veins and a silky feel rare in modern Habanos cigars. Nice volatiles of sweet spice in the pre-light aroma. On cutting, about halfway down the shoulder, the draw is perfect. The cigar feels good in the hand with a nice weight for its size. Not underfilled. 1st third. Main impressions are of sweet caramel with a spice on the nose. Not the ammonia spice of a young cigar. Christmas spices. From the rounded finish and lack of harshness I would guess that this was not a freshly rolled cigar. The flavour progresses into something like creamy, toasted marshmallow. Very nice. 2nd third Less sweet now, spice on the nose with caramel back again, this time with more depth, a longer finish. Last third Quite strong now and the spiciness increases. Not harsh but strong. Overall Impression This is a very good cigar. Good to smoke now but has the strength, sweetness and finish already to age very well. This combination of sweetness and spice can age extraordinarily well. This could be a great cigar in 2-5 years. Patience could be rewarded, the longer you can wait.
Hunters & Frankau are going to pull out all the stops regarding this release. It's understood that along with a Slide Lid Cabinet release that will contain twenty five cigars, there will also be a special humidors release. There will be 225 humidors produced in all, each containing four bundles of twenty five cigars, making one hundred cigars in all.
The cabinets are to be specially produced by DeArt in Milan. Each cabinet will come with 50cl of unique rum made especially for this release by Havana Club maestro Ashel Morales.
This will no doubt be a sought after release.
Earliest known information regarding the Hunters & Frankau Aniversario 225
The earliest information regarding this Cigar was in August 2012, when the popular French Cigar Magazine L'Amateur de Cigare published a list of no less than Nine Cigars commissioned for different importers worldwide. Amongst the list was the 2012 Great Britain Regional Edition, the Ramon Allones Petit Belicoso and the 225 Aniversario. It was initially thought that the United Kingdom would have two Regional Editions for 2012, however Habanos SA had mentioned the year before that each Country would only be able to commission one Regional Edition release from 2012 onwards.
Details emerged in late 2012 that the Aniversario 225 would actually be a 2015 Regional Edition release, and not a 2012 one as first thought. More information was announced through various channels that the Aniversario 225 would be aged for two years at the Hunters & Frankau warehouse.
The first known picture of the Hunters & Frankau Aniversario 225 was posted on Jimmy McGhee's Twitter Feed on the 6th June 2013, indicating that they received the shipment of the Cigars on that day or a few days previously.
