Regional Edition Cuban Cigars

Introduction

Every year, each distributor is allowed to release one Regional Edition cigar for the market they represent. For example, Hunters & Frankau, the exlusive distributor for Cuban cigars in the United Kingdom, released in 2007 the Por Larrañaga Magnificos an exclusive release for their markets.

The Regional Edition program has it's roots back in 2004 where the Ramon Allónes Belicosos was released, a specially commissioned cigar by Hunters & Frankau for the United Kingdom market.

From 2005 to 2011, each distrbutor was allowed up to two different Regional Editions for their area.

Ramon Allónes is far and away the most popular brand used as a Regional Edition.

Regional Edition Bands

Every Regional Edition Cigar comes with two bands. The first is the usual band of the brand. Some Regional Edition releases have had the band altered slightly to reflect the cigar. An example of this is the Juan López Selección Suprema, where the words 'Seleccion Suprema' are adorned on the band. The second band is coloured red and silver, with the country that the cigar is exclusive printed on.

Since 2006, every box is individually numbered with a stamp adorned on the outside.

Brand Selection

In order to maintain collectability and diversity within Regional Editions, seldom used or discontinued brands have been commissioned. Two recent examples of this were the Diplomáticos Colleccion Privada, 2011 Regional Edition for Spain and the La Flor de Cano Gran Cano, 2013 Regional Edition for Great Britain.

2012 - Consolation of the Program

By 2012, the Regional Edition program had become extremely popular for distributors who would wish to give their markets a special release. It was decided by Habanos SA that in 2013, each distributor would be allocated only one Regional Edition per year. This has been the norm for both 2013 and 2014, however, somehow the French market were granted two regional editions in 2013 with the Error: Cigar Not Found and Juan López Minutos.
