Iceberg by Titanic Brewery
Titanic Iceberg is a refreshing, Wheat Beer that quenches any thirst. A fantastic summer beer.
Type: Golden Ale
Brewery: Titanic Brewery
Titanic Brewery's Iceberg is a Wheat Beer using a combination of Maris Otter pale malt and Wheat malt. On the back of the bottle, it explains that "this fantastic wheat beer is a formidable opponent to any passing thirst." Well luckily enough, I have one hell of a thirst on this warm, humid Saturday night, so lets see if Iceberg can quench my mammoth thirst.
Pouring Iceberg into my pint glass, the first thing you notice is how light the beer looks. Classic Wheat Beer characteristics. On the nose, there's not much going in way of any aroma, there's a little bit of malt, but nothing that hits you in the face by a long long way.
The carbonation is fantastic. There's loads of bubbles rising throughout the beer, and the head is exceptional. It's a good two finger head. This looks like to be good lacing wise too.
On the palate, the first taste is a refreshing, light flavour, that leads onto a bitter hop finish, that I wasn't actually expecting. The initial, light characteristics of Iceberg hide the hop finish that hits you unexpectedly. Interesting.... This finish gives Iceberg that added dimension, if absent, would have been a one dimensional beer.
Iceberg isn't gunning to be the all out, complex humdinger of a Wheat Beer. All it wants to do is quench your thirst, and that's what it does, to maximum effect. It does exactly what it says on the tin, errr... bottle. And for that, you can only salute it.
So, did it quench my mammoth thirst? Hell yeah it did! If it hadn't I don't think I would buy Titanic's Iceberg again, but as it did, this Wheat Beer has a place in my fridge.
