One of my favourite Ale’s in the last few years has been Rhymey Brewery’s Export. One of my favourite Cigar and Beer combo’s, I thought it was time to revisit this alcoholic beverage and give it a review and rating.

Since the last time I had Rhymney Export, the cask version of this Ale has won the Silver Medal at the Great Welsh Beer & Cider Festival in Cardiff, at the end of June this year. Rhymney Brewery must have been at the top of their game shortly before the festival, as both their Dark and Export won rewards, the Gold and Silver medal respectively!

At 5.0% ABV, this is their strongest Ale in their portfolio, and it shows this most predominately in the aroma. On the nose, there’s this alcoholic, wine like aroma that gives it a hearty kick. There’s a light floral element, but the wine aroma is much more predominant and kicks the floral element into touch.

Pouring Rhymney Export into the glass, the wine aroma starts to expand more in the glass, that shows a hint of yeast. The colour is golden brown, with a nice half a finger head, with some zingy carbonation.

The Beer is very well balanced. There’s a hoppy, bitter finish, but it doesn't bum rush the show or anything. The mid palette has that alcohol element too it, but underlining it, there’s this lovely malt and bread play.

All said and done, this is a cracking Ale from the Rhymney Brewery. The cask version, is probably more complex in flavour, and no doubt worthy of winning the Silver Medal from what I can detect from the aroma and flavours of the bottled version.

Rating Rhymney Export, this is at least a solid 8. Therefore, I'm happy to give this 8.25 out of 10.
