Hello, and welcome to my first article regarding Release Management. I’m looking forward on SteveGriff.com to write about my experiences within the field, including best practises that can be used and what tools can be utilised to make yours and my life easier.

Just a little bit of background on myself. I’m from mainly a coding based background - I’ve progressed from writing the code to where I am now, a Release Management Executive. Because I’ve joined this field from a non-conventional route, I’m still quite new to some of the practises and methods that are available. Lets see if I can pick them up shall we?

Hopefully I can chart my progress in Release Management through my articles. Some topics I’m keen to get stuck into: ITIL, Automatic Builds, Continuous Integration and hassle free deployment.

There are many tools out there to make deployment easier. But many of these are not well documented, and are not presented in a way to make it easy for you to integrate it into your Release process. Hopefully I can do my bit and help unravel this giant ball of string.
